Brukunga Fire-Resilient Garden Project

Brukunga Fire-Resilient Garden for Community Safety and Wellbeing

Building a Safer, Greener Future for Brukunga

The Brukunga Fire-Resilient Garden is an exciting new project we are working closely with the Brukunga Country Fire Service to bring to life!
This joint project aims to enhance community safety, environmental sustainability, and town beautification. Located at the Brukunga CFS Station—an area heavily impacted by the 2019 Cudlee Creek Bushfire—this garden will showcase fire-resistant native plants, educational signage, and rustic sculptures that reflect the resilience of our community.

Why This Project Matters

Brukunga and its surrounding areas are highly susceptible to bushfires, making fire awareness and preparedness essential for our community’s safety. This garden will serve as both a beautiful and practical space, demonstrating fire-wise gardening principles that residents can adopt at home. By using strategically selected native plants, we aim to reduce fire risk, support local biodiversity, and provide a welcoming entrance to our town.

What the Garden Will Feature:

Fire-Resistant Native Plants – Reducing fire risk while supporting local wildlife
Educational Signage – Helping residents learn about fire-safe landscaping
Rustic Metal Sculptures – A tribute to Brukunga’s resilience and community spirit
Community Involvement – Bringing together volunteers, local groups, and the Brukunga CFS

Project Timeline & Community Involvement

This community-led initiative will roll out in several stages that we are currently seeking funding opportunities for, from planning and site preparation to a community planting day and an official launch event.
Volunteers from the Brukunga Community Association (BCA), CFS, and local residents will play a vital role in shaping this lasting community asset.

We’re excited to build a space that enhances both safety and sustainability while strengthening community bonds.

Stay tuned for updates and ways to get involved!
